REAL ESTATE WINS.
Kirk — From Restaurant Owner to Condo Flipper
After spending decades in the restaurant business, Kirk understood hard work better than anyone. Owning and operating restaurants required long hours, constant problem-solving, and the ability to perform under pressure every single day.
But after retiring from the industry, Kirk wasn’t ready to slow down completely.
“I knew I still wanted a challenge,” Kirk explained. “I just wanted something different.”
That “something different” became real estate investing.
Kirk initially started researching investment opportunities as a way to stay active and continue building wealth during retirement. After attending local investor meetups and studying renovation projects, he found himself drawn to fixing and flipping condos.
“I liked the idea of taking older condos and modernizing them,” he said. “It reminded me a lot of running restaurants — details matter, timing matters, and presentation matters.”
His first project taught him quickly that real estate investing came with its own learning curve. Managing HOA requirements, renovation budgets, and contractor schedules was far different from running a kitchen.
“There were definitely surprises,” Kirk laughed. “Every project has something unexpected behind the walls.”
Despite the challenges, Kirk embraced the process. His business background helped him stay disciplined with budgeting and decision-making, while his customer service experience gave him a strong understanding of what buyers wanted in a finished product.
Today, Kirk continues flipping condos while enjoying the flexibility retirement never fully gave him.
“Real estate keeps me motivated,” he shared. “It’s rewarding to create something beautiful while still building wealth at the same time.”
